Forum members, blog members fellow bass players, lend me your ears...
As some of you know, i've started writing a book about bass. It'll be an E-book (nice and easy for me = good for my sanity!) and will be available from my webbysitious.
Now, i've covered a bunch of stuff. I didn't want to make it theory heavy, as there is a lot of stuff out there that you can already learn from. It's more aimed at practical usage. Playing live, training ear, singing and playing, as well as covering techniques.
We DO cover a few scales, though. These can be used as warm-ups if need be.
I also cover the evolution of the bass, where it's going, and where it's come from.
I also try to push different thinking.
Now, if you guys wanted to learn something from a book on bass, what would it be?
You can answer here, or at my forums. Either is fine. I want to get an idea of what YOU want, rather than what I think you might want. Dig deep into your thinking gear.
Here is a picture of me for you to admire, as the top half of my blog is looking a bit sparse. Enjoy.

The writing of the Book!

An e-book is an interesting idea.. but the videos you create are already a brilliant learning tool.
What would be really cool is some sort of solid platform (probably flash) for your videos, that organises written content helpfully alongside, tracks a users progress through the lessons and provides a range of options on the video, looping play all etc.. could even have interactive diagrams to show tabbing etc alongside a solid index and search. As a comment I get that this is definitely not what you are looking for as it's
a) not what you asked
b) a fair bit of effort
... sorry about that.
I think what i'd like to read about in an ebook however would be less about technique (which videos are brilliant for) and more about planning and structure. How do you visualise what you are going to do when you make something new?
Regarding your first point:
I'd LOVE to be able to do this, but my knowledge of flash isn't that good, i'm afraid. If you see anything like this on your travels, then please give me a shout!
Planning, structure and creativity are so far covered in the book. Especially creativity.
Thanks for the input, keep it all coming!
I actually work for an e-learning company developing flash based content for various sporting organisations to fulfill some sort of commitment to 'be good' by providing education (and presumably get some status/funding from various governments). So i'm pretty familiar with the concept of flash based lessons.
Hunt me down on Twitter or something if you want to talk about it but i reckon the ebook is a brilliant starting place (and ultimately a good idea in its own right) for you to put together exactly what knowledge you can best share.
I find one of the things that holds me back a little in the book i'm learning from (only a newbie) is that I get really excited about playing through the new tab as it appears, but then have to hunt back through the book to find out what the theory side is talking about. Often I get lost doing this and have no idea where I'm actually up to in the book. Probably because in terms of tab I'm further along than I am in terms of actually reading it.. The 'complete idiots guide to...' series has a nice approach to dealing with this kind of thing by having information in different sections of the book pointed out and putting interesting but less useful information in little clearly marked boxes.
First I just want to say thanks, for a great site to have as a learning tool. I feel I have learned alot. I plan on making a donation soon, as your video's have helped me more than the books that I have paid for. I would like to see you go into the theory, I have a very hard time understanding it, and I think you could make it easier (meaning easier than everyone else) for us slow learners thanks again for a great site.
